In the heart of Bergen
Our former home was set in a historic building in the heart of Bergen, overlooking the surrounding mountain landscape and the city below. The light first drew us in, filling the rooms from midday until sunset. There was a sense of calm here, even with the city just outside.
My partner, Per Ove, and I shaped the apartment around its original character and the way we wanted to live. Generous ceiling heights and tall windows gave the rooms a feeling of openness, while a curved wall borrowed its shape from the building’s stairwell, creating a softer transition through the living area.
The dark oak kitchen was conceived as a piece of furniture within the open space. Its depth was balanced by pale ash flooring, warm white walls and soft textiles, with materials chosen for how they complemented one another and responded to the changing daylight.
Throughout the home, vintage furniture and contemporary design came together with art, ceramics and pieces collected over time. Their different forms and textures brought depth to the understated palette, creating a home that felt calm, warm and personal.
A home we loved creating, and loved living in.
